Dedicated transitways and busways along with new, clean bus designs and use of intelligent transport systems (ITS) offer much potential as cost-effective mass rapid transit systems as part of a strategy to attract new ridership.

Dedicated on-road mass transit facilities, particularly busways and transitways, are in various stages of development across Australasia - in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Auckland.

The first section of Brisbane's South East Busway is due to open on 23 October 2000 and work is well advanced on the 15km of exclusive busway and 20km of transit lanes - come see and hear Queensland Transport's experience.
