Operational Issues Affecting Busway Station Capacity - Session 4

This paper will examine busway operational issues and the implication on station and busway capacity drawing on the experience gained in developing an operational plan for Brisbane's emerging busway network and world's best practice. An overview of Brisbane's busway network, capacity issues and the tools developed to assess busway operations will be presented (this included the application of a multi modal demand forecasting model and a micro simulation operational model). The key operational parameters affecting busway capacity will be discussed and the main criteria to measure capacity (passenger and bus) will be presented. The paper will examine the underlying causes of capacity issues at a number of the busway stations in Brisbane and solutions examined to improve busway operations. Finally (subject to time constraints and subject to confirmation) a short demonstration will be made of the busway micro simulation model.
