| Geometric Design of Busways - Session 5 | |
| This paper will focus on the planning and design of busways / transitways with an emphasis on the geometric design of the stations and exclusive rights of way for unguided bus services. While busway / transitway geometric design has its origins in roadway design, there have been numerous refinements to reflect passenger comfort (including standees) as well as vehicle safety. The paper will reflect on the practical operating experience gained through the Ottawa Transitway system over the past 15 years. There will also be a discussion on the differences in design of busways in warmer and colder climates relating to both cross section and station layout. The paper will highlight the geometric design issues that the public transport planner / designer will take into account in the design of a busway / transitway. |
