• Description of types of potential benefits and costs and
four essential components of work: demand analysis, bus operations
assessment, economic / financial evaluation/multi-criteria analysis
(MCA) and link to policy issues (Phil Sayeg)
• Lecture for key aspects of transport planning theory, generalised
costs for modelling & evaluation, Value of Time, sources of
information (Professor Luis Ferreira)
• Existing case study demand characteristics, link to IRTP
targets, demographic information & population trends, available
zoning systems & bus route data for planning purposes (Phil
Sayeg)
12:00-1:00 Lunch

1:00-4:30: Planning
& demand “hands on” practical small group exercises
• Develop/discuss suitable trip rates for analysis for various
analysis years & in context of alternative levels of public
transport service
• Discuss/develop appropriate trip distribution assumptions
• Apply these assumptions using spreadsheet provided to calculate
demand and generalised costs/benefits)
• Finalise demand and generalised cost estimates using spreadsheet
provided
