Cities in Australia and New Zealand are upgrading their road, rail and public transport networks to support population and economic growth. To acheive the desired quality of life for our citizens in future requires making good transport choices today.
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is well established in Australia but interest in rail based systems remains strong. This is particularly the case as current heavy rail systems are in need of major refurbishment and capacity expansion.
Rail is expensive and with the current constrained funding environment affordability will likely remain a challenge for several years. High cost rail-based rapid transit therefore needs to be deployed wisely.
